MCPAssistant connected to Vialo via MCPResearch lab management

Just ask your lab.

Samples, equipment, supplies and every freezer's temperature in one place, with a history of every change. Plus an AI assistant that finds, records and books things when you ask in your own words, with each person's permissions.

The demo runs in your browser with a sample lab. No account needed.

What you'd ask a labmate

Connect your AI assistant with a token and ask in your own words. It searches, cross-references and summarizes; with edit rights it records too. Before any change it tells you what it's about to do and asks you to confirm.

  1. 1.Connect your assistant

Create a token in Vialo with your role and add it to Claude, Cursor or VS Code. Revoke it in one click.

  2. 2.Ask in your own words

No menus or filters to learn. If a required detail is missing, it asks instead of guessing.

  3. 3.Everything is logged

Every change is recorded in the history under your name, “via MCP”. It can't delete anything, and with a viewer role it can only read.

How to connect it

One lab, several modules

Each lab turns on the modules it needs. They all share the same users, permissions and history, so adding one never means starting over.

Biobank

Available

Samples and aliquots with your lab's own fields, located by room, freezer, rack, box and position. Find any of them instantly, even among a hundred thousand.

  • A grid for every box, designed for tablets
  • Combinable search and filters
  • Import from Excel or CSV
  • Export to Excel, and recoverable deleted samples

Equipment & maintenance

Available

Your equipment inventory with maintenance plans, calibrations, issues and a booking calendar for shared instruments.

  • Refrigerated centrifugeCalibration overdue

Supplies

Available

Reagents, kits, plastics and consumables, lot by lot, with expiry dates, what needs ordering and who used what.

  • Absolute ethanol 1 LExpired lot
  • Filter tips 200 µLTo order
  • RNA extraction kitUp to date

Temperature monitoring

Available

Fridges, freezers and ultra-low freezers with their temperature in plain sight. Connect your own sensor, and every alarm is logged along with what was done about it.

Biobank

Every sample in its place

Room, freezer, rack, box and position, with the box drawn and the sample highlighted. Search by code, donor or any custom field, and every move is logged.

Boxes at a glance

Each box's grid with free and occupied positions, designed for a tablet next to the freezer.

Aliquots

Split a sample into aliquots that inherit its data and stay linked to the parent sample.

Your own fields

The data your lab records, per sample type, with templates to get started fast.

From your spreadsheets

Bring your samples over from Excel or CSV with errors flagged row by row, and export them anytime.

Equipment & maintenance

Every instrument up to date, and bookable

Each instrument's record brings together its maintenance plan, what was done with the certificate as proof, its issues and its calendar. What auditors check no longer lives in a spreadsheet and a folder of PDFs.

Maintenance plans

Maintenance, calibrations, checks and cleaning: how often, with which instructions, and whether the lab or a vendor does it.

Due dates without spreadsheets

Calculated from the last record, so they're never stale. A failed calibration doesn't renew the due date.

Issues

Anyone on the team can report them, even viewers. If an instrument can't be used, it goes out of service and can't be booked.

Bookings

Day and week calendar, optional approval, maximum duration and lead time, and usage rules for each instrument.

Usage log

Who used each instrument, when and for what, with total hours and Excel export.

Linked to the Biobank

Every Biobank freezer, fridge or nitrogen tank can have its equipment record, with calibrations and issues.

Supplies

No expired stock, no running out

How much is left of each reagent, kit or consumable, from which lot, where it is and how long it's good for. Stock updates when the bottle is taken, not when someone remembers the spreadsheet.

Stock by lot

Every bottle or box with its lot number, expiry and location. Quantities come from receipts and usage.

Use it from the bench

Search by name or scan the label, and Vialo suggests the lot that expires first. Viewers can do it too.

Expiry dates

The manufacturer's or the one that starts when the bottle is opened, whichever comes first. Using an expired lot asks for confirmation.

Reordering

Reorder point per item, a list grouped by supplier, and orders received in parts.

Safety & controlled substances

Attached safety data sheets, hazard pictograms and the movement log for controlled substances.

Linked to Equipment

A storage place can be an Equipment fridge or freezer. If it goes out of service, Vialo tells you which supplies are inside.

Temperature monitoring

Every freezer in range, with proof

Bring your own sensor —an ESP32 board with a probe, a WiFi data logger or the system you already have— and connect it with a key. Vialo stores every reading, flags alarms and records what was done about each one, right next to the instrument's record. No more temperature log filled in by hand once a day.

Bring your own sensor

Any device that can send a request over the internet works. The guide shows how to build one with an ESP32 board and a probe.

Alarms that don't nag

Going out of range counts as an alarm only if it lasts longer than the delay you choose: opening the door won't trigger it. Sensors that stop sending data are flagged too.

An audit-ready log

Every alarm with its duration, the extreme temperature and the corrective action: who, when and what was done.

Charts for any period

The last 24 hours, 7 or 30 days, or any dates you pick, without losing the peaks.

Ready-made ranges

Shortcuts for fridges (2 to 8 °C), freezers (−25 to −15 °C) and ultra-low freezers (−90 to −70 °C), or whatever range you need.

Alongside Equipment and Biobank

The temperature shows on the instrument's record and on the Biobank freezer that holds your samples.

What every module shares

The same foundation for the whole lab.

Role-based permissions

Admin, Editor and Viewer in each lab. Everyone sees and changes only what they should.

History of every change

Who created, moved or edited each sample, instrument or supply, when, and what it was before.

Alerts on the home page

What's overdue, open issues, what to order and bookings to approve. Each person's own tasks first.

Your lab's own fields

Add the data your team records, with templates to get started fast.

Guided onboarding

A setup wizard, role-based first steps, in-app tours and help guides.

API for your spreadsheets

Read and write data from Excel, Python or your institute's systems, with the same token and permissions.

On your phone, like an app

Add it to your home screen and use it one-handed next to the freezer or at the bench.

In English and Spanish

Each person picks their language, help guides and emails included.

Each lab's data stays in that lab

Separation between labs and each role's permissions are enforced in the database, not just on screen. Someone without access can't see a sample or an instrument even with the link, and not even platform administrators can see the data of a lab they don't belong to.

The AI assistant follows the same rules: it only sees the token's lab, with its role, and it can't delete.

Frequently asked questions

What people usually ask before getting started.

Which AI assistants can I connect?

Any MCP-compatible app: Claude Desktop, Cursor and VS Code, among others. You connect with a token you create in Vialo, with your role, and you can revoke it anytime.

Can the AI break something?

It can't delete anything. Before any change it tells you what it's about to do and your app asks you to confirm, and everything is logged under your name. With a viewer token it can only read.

How does the 15-day trial work?

We set up your access with every module for 15 days, no card needed. If you don't continue, you can export all your data to Excel.

Can I use just one module?

Yes. Each lab turns on the modules it needs, and each works the same with the others off. If you add another later, it already has the same users, permissions and history.

Do I have to buy temperature sensors from you?

No. Vialo doesn't sell sensors: connect the one you already have, or build one with an ESP32 board and a probe by following the guide. Each sensor sends its readings with its own key, which is good for nothing else.

Everything we have is in Excel. Can we bring it over?

Yes: samples, equipment inventory and supplies. The import wizard reads Excel or CSV, flags errors row by row before saving, and an import can be undone.

Does it help with audits or accreditation?

It gathers the evidence that's usually reviewed: what was done to each instrument, when, by whom and with what result, with the certificate attached; which lot of each reagent was used; and a history no one can alter. It doesn't replace your lab's quality management system.
